A chapter is the basic organizational unit of the Divine Word Lay Association. I.1 Each chapter is under the spiritual direction and review of the SVD Provincial Superior and/or his delegate. I.2 Each chapter is headed by the chapter-leader, assisted by the chapter-spiritual director, and chapter-secretary/treasurer. The chapter-leader submits a written annual report to the SVD chapter –spiritual director on the activities and membership of the chapter. I.4 The chapter should seek an SVD member to serve as spiritual director; however, in places/areas where there is no SVD member available, the chapter-leader, with the consent of the chapter members, may designate an interim spiritual director until such time an SVD member may be found. The chapter-spiritual director helps prepare the prayers and spiritual readings and reflections at all chapter meetings; the Chaplet of Prayers is to be used, as well as the scriptural readings for the day. for the Missions and Missionaries Guide and enlighten them by your Word and example. Lift up their hearts in the face of trouble and danger. O Lord, grant that wherever they go, the image of Your crucifixion may go with them, that in times of danger and difficulty they may learn from it a true meaning of sacrifice. Let them find strength and consolation in it, in their weakness. Through it, let them find light and firmness of spirit in every crisis of their apostolate. Since they do not seek earthly honors and comforts, grant their labors the fruits which they ardently desire, namely the power to save all people and to lead them to you, who are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Finally, Lord, increase the number of their flock. Lead them to praise and thank You who have redeemed them and who wish to bring them to their eternal reward. Amen.
