given by Bishop McGrath welcoming Bishop Oscar as well as thoughtful comments from
Coadjutor Bishop Oscar Cantú:

All of December:

This is the CONNECT Group's 32nd year of offering and facilitating activities in which Ascension can share Christmas blessings with those less fortunate. It has proven to be a most profound and positive experience for participants throughout these many years.

CONNECT activities for this year include:

CONNECT GIVING TREE: The Giving Tree will be up hopefully on Sunday, November 11th. Stop by and select a gift tag or tags as you are able. Gift tags that can be found on our Giving Tree will include needs of the following agencies:  Return dates will be announced later.

  • Help One Child (foster parent program)
  • Catholic Charities

HOLIDAY FOOD AND HOUSEHOLD GOODS DRIVE:  Running through the month of DECEMBER, please bring your unexpired canned and bottled goods, bagged and boxed staples and other non-perishable items and we will distribute your donations. We will again be collecting laundry and dishwashing soap, toilet paper, etc. Please feel free to be creative and donate what you feel a person might need and also enjoy receiving. These items will primarily be going to West Valley Community Services, Catholic Charities, and Sacred Heart Community Service.

BEDDING, TOWELS, UNDERWEAR, SOCKS & JACKETS:  Running through the month of DECEMBER, we will also be collecting new and gently used blankets, sheets, towels and jackets and new socks and new men’s and women’s underwear for distribution to local agencies such as Sacred Heart Community Service, Catholic Charities and local shelters (run by HomeFirst). We will be collecting these items through December

TOILETRIES:  (Full or sample/travel sizes).  Running through the month of DECEMBER, we will be accepting Toiletries. We will distribute the full size items primarily to West Valley Community Services and the sample/travel size items to agencies and groups who mostly deal with the homeless.

DONATIONS:  If you don't have time to shop, you can make a donation to CONNECT that we'll use to buy presents that were not selected from the Giving Tree. Just place your donation into a CONNECT envelope (available on the table near the Giving Tree) and put the CONNECT envelope into the collection basket for the first or second collection.

PS:  Eye glasses, cell phones, hearing aids, Box Tops 4 Education, etc can be placed into the CONNECT basket at any time of the year.
